Description

Bravecto (fluralaner) Chews are a prescription oral flea and tick medication for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older weighing at least 4.4 lbs. A single chew provides 12 weeks of protection against fleas and several important tick species, offering an extended-duration alternative to monthly flea and tick medications.

Bravecto is FDA-approved to kill adult fleas and for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations caused by Ctenocephalides felis. It is also indicated for the treatment and control of black-legged ticks, American dog ticks, brown dog ticks, and Asian longhorned ticks for 12 weeks. For lone star ticks, labeled control lasts 8 weeks.

The flavored chew is administered orally with food and is available in weight-specific strengths to provide the appropriate dose of fluralaner.

How It Works

Bravecto contains fluralaner, an antiparasitic medication belonging to the isoxazoline class.

After oral administration, fluralaner is systemically available to the dog. Fleas and ticks are exposed to fluralaner when they feed. Fluralaner acts on susceptible parasites' nervous systems, resulting in their death.

The extended activity of fluralaner allows a single appropriately dosed Bravecto Chew to provide labeled flea and tick activity for up to 12 weeks.

Indications

Bravecto is indicated for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older weighing 4.4 lbs or greater to:

• Kill adult fleas
• Treat and prevent flea infestations caused by Ctenocephalides felis
• Treat and control Ixodes scapularis (black-legged tick) infestations for 12 weeks
• Treat and control Dermacentor variabilis (American dog tick) infestations for 12 weeks
• Treat and control Rhipicephalus sanguineus (brown dog tick) infestations for 12 weeks
• Treat and control Haemaphysalis longicornis (Asian longhorned tick) infestations for 12 weeks
• Treat and control Amblyomma americanum (lone star tick) infestations for 8 weeks

Ingredients

Active Ingredients:

Fluralaner

Each chew is formulated to provide a minimum fluralaner dose of 11.4 mg/lb (25 mg/kg) body weight.

Directions

Administer Bravecto orally with food as a single dose every 12 weeks according to the dog's body weight.

For potential exposure to lone star ticks, Bravecto may be administered every 8 weeks, since efficacy against this tick species has not been demonstrated beyond 8 weeks.

Weight / Dosage

Do not break individual chews for the purpose of providing a smaller dose. Dogs weighing more than 123 lbs should receive the appropriate combination of available strengths to provide the recommended minimum dose.

Cautions

• Fluralaner belongs to the isoxazoline class.
• Isoxazoline-class medications have been associated with neurologic adverse reactions, including tremors, ataxia, and seizures.
• Seizures have been reported in dogs receiving isoxazoline-class medications even without a previous history of seizures.
• Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.
• Adverse events have been reported following use in breeding females.
• Tell your veterinarian about your dog's medical history and medications before administering Bravecto.

Possible Side Effects

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include:

• Vomiting / Lethargy / Diarrhea / Decreased appetite/anorexia / Itching/pruritus

Isoxazoline-class medications have also been associated with neurologic adverse reactions, including:

• Tremors / Ataxia / Seizures

Contact your veterinarian if your dog develops an unexpected or concerning reaction following administration.

Precautions

Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.

Administer the appropriate strength based on the dog's current body weight and give Bravecto with food.

Keep the medication securely stored in its original packaging and away from children and animals to prevent accidental ingestion.

Storage

Store at or below 86°F (30°C). Keep in the original packaging until use and keep out of reach of children.

Disposal

Dispose of unused or expired medication and packaging according to applicable local requirements. Do not use beyond the expiration date printed on the manufacturer packaging.
